Defending champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull relegated to fifth position in the German Grand Prix. Vettel was punished because he was maneuvering to get through Button on the penultimate lap.He overtook Button to push his car out of the track, which is considered by the supervisor race as illegal. This German Formula 1 driver received a penalty 20 seconds. According to the supervisor race, Vettel's car left the track and make a profit when he came back and it violates article 20.2 of the FIA Formula 1 regulations.
Vettel eventually relegated to fifth position from the starting position to finish second, 3.7 seconds behind the German Grand Prix champion, Fernando Alonso, Ferrari team. While the position of Kimi Raikkonen climbed to number three and Kamui Kobayashi was fourth.
